Maharashtra is preparing to establish the first pod taxi network in India, which will connect Thane and Mira-Bhayandar. With its elevated tracks, this futuristic transportation system will provide a clever, electric, and traffic-free way to commute. A public-private partnership (PPP) strategy is being used to construct the plan, which helps the government avoid significant capital expenditures while preserving innovation.

When and Where Will It Run ?

The initial route is suggested to go from Bhayander Pada Metro Station to Vihang Hills Circle in Thane via Ghodbunder Road. Across these zones, there will be roughly fifteen stations. There are now plans to create a detailed project report (DPR). By March 2026, officials hope to start building.

What Sets This Pod Taxi Apart

• Every pod will run entirely on electricity, creating a zero-emission technology that is perfect for lowering pollution.

• The pods are effective for traveling alone or in small groups because they can accommodate three to six people.

• They will speed up travel times and avoid delay by operating on specially designed elevated guideways that are above normal road traffic.

• With safety measures like collision avoidance, speeds of up to 60–70 km/h are anticipated.

• Small pillars will support the stations, reducing their footprint on the ground and facilitating seamless integration with the current infrastructure.
