In response to the government's order to remove duplicate or inactive records, the Income Tax Department is already deactivating PAN cards that are not connected to Aadhaar. Your PAN may have already stopped working and prevented you from using crucial financial services if it hasn't been linked yet.

The Significance of PAN Deactivation

You cannot submit an ITR, get a tax refund, or finish financial operations like opening bank accounts, purchasing real estate, or making investments if your PAN is inactive. It also leads to higher TDS deductions on your income.

How to Find out Whether Your PAN Is Active

Checking the current status of your PAN is simple:

  • Visit the Income Tax e-filing website.

  • Go to "Verify Your PAN."

  • Enter your date of birth, Aadhaar number, and PAN number.

  • You will see a "Valid" message if your PAN is operational, and "Inoperative" otherwise.

How to Get Your PAN Reactivated

You can reactivate your deactivated PAN by connecting it to Aadhaar:

  • Visit the official Income Tax website.

  • Choose "Link Aadhaar" and provide your registered cellphone number, PAN, and Aadhaar.

  • Verify with the OTP and pay the ₹1,000 reactivation cost.

Who Is Not Affected

This law does not apply to some groups, including inhabitants of particular states, NRIs, and senior persons over the age of 80.

Conclusion

Take quick action if your PAN is inactive. Before December 31, 2025, connect it to Aadhaar to prevent further financial problems. Being proactive now guarantees future banking, tax filing, and investing activities go smoothly.
